Suite Seat started with one chair tied to the front of a car.

Long before the warehouses and wholesale deals, our father, Richard “Rich” Guilfoyle, got his hands on a single high-end office chair and decided to refurbish and sell it himself. Family members still talk about how his hands were bruised and cut in those early days from restoring chairs by hand.

What began with one chair grew into more than 40 years in the office furniture industry.

Over time, our father built a reputation sourcing premium office seating and handling large corporate furniture projects across the country. But despite the scale of the business, he always came back to chairs — and more importantly, to helping people feel better in them.

Recently, when I told my mother I had started refurbishing chairs myself, she laughed and said:​​​

        “He was back to doing that again?”​​​​​

That moment stayed with me.​​

After losing our father, I realize Suite Seat isn’t just continuing a business. It’s returning to its roots.​

Today, based in Rochester, Suite Seat is a family-built business specializing in premium ergonomic seating from brands like Herman Miller, Steelcase, Haworth, and Knoll — helping people find chairs that truly support the way they work, move, and live.
